ABSTRACT: The worldwide video game market is expected to exceed 2013’s revenue of $90 billion, with nearly half of that revenue coming from video game consoles. The Madden NFL franchise has consistently been one of the top selling games in the console video game market for twenty-five years, making it one of the most successful video game franchises ever. Over the past twenty-five years, the game has evolved dramatically with regards to what the user experiences and how the game is produced. The development team faces the challenge every year of high expectations for the product and continues to pour innovation into each iteration. This presentation will cover what it takes to succeed today as a game developer working on the Madden NFL franchise as well as the exciting technical challenges faced in developing one of the top selling video games in North America.
