Empa Talk – A Physiology Based Video Chat

This research investigates physiology based human computer interactions (HCI) that incorporates biometric signals to HCI systems. The goal of the research is to beyond current HCI systems that are mostly based on the two modalities: Auditory and Visual. We hypothesis that incorporating physiological data such as body heat and heart rate would reduce interaction gaps between the user and systems and thus enhance the interactivity. As a proof of the concept, a working prototype of a physiology based video chat system has been implemented and in the stage of testing its effectiveness with potential users.
